Our Community

Awakeri is a village located 10 minutes drive southwest of Whakatane.

Surrounded by large paddocks and forest scenery, Awakeri has an expanding farming and fruit growing community. 

The heart of Awakeri is just off the main state highway where you will find shops, Awakeri School and the Awakeri Events Centre. 

Local attractions in Awakeri include the local natural Awakeri Hot Springs, travel down the Taneatua Rail Line in modified golf carts with Awakeri Rail Adventures or take a bush walk on one of the bush walks in the surrounding area. The Awakeri Events Centre is a large venue in Awakeri often holding special functions and sporting events. It has a gymnasium, lounge and a kitchen/ bar.

Awakeri is a small farming community with lots of fruit growers and other horticulture. 

The village consists of a petrol station, automotive engineering shop, dairy, takeaways, and liquor store. 

Parent Help

This is always welcome for many things within the school. Without parent help some things cannot be undertaken and the teachers appreciate any help offered. If at any time you can help please feel free to contact the teachers or office. Grandparents are also welcome! Don't feel as if you are unable to do it - we are prepared to assist you.

This is especially so in sports activities as coaches and help is always needed for class visits to help with supervision and transport. On planned days if you would like to help, contact the organiser who can discuss where best your expertise can be used.
